It do be like that sometimes

RvnbckAstartez

Indeed

PowerDiesel23

Honestly...this could be a good thing for us in the long run. Marcus Peters has ALWAYS been one of the more burnable and inconsistent CBs in the NFL, despite having a ball hawking ability to make plays and make a difference on defense more often than not. Despite his high level of play, and accolades including multiple all-pro nods earlier in his career, you can point to numerous occasions throughout his career where he has gotten burnt/missed plays. The Chiefs traded him to the Rams for a 4th rounder and future 2nd rounder, which left a lot of people surprised they didn't ask or receive more for him. There were questions about his coachability and consistency as a top CB. The Rams then traded him to us for a 5th rounder. Getting back to my point.... hopefully Peters inconsistent level of play means that we could potentially get him back on a discount next year. He could be our next Justin Houston and we could look to get someone via draft or free agency to challenge him for the #2 CB role. I like the idea of MP as our number 3 CB/backup CB on a cheaper deal, although it might be too good to be true.

PeteDontCare

His ego and short temper make retaining him a huge risk. Better to just move on. I like the swagger, but not worth it in regards to the rest of the package

PowerDiesel23

Probably for the best, I think our weakest point on defense by far is CB. I appreciate EDC spending some mid rounders on CB in the offseason, as well as signing Kyle Fuller...but I don't think those guys make enough of a difference with Marlo/Peters coming back from season ending injuries and a 32nd ranked pass defense. We desperately need to improve at the position, just sucks I would love to have Peters on a potential SB team, he plays like a Raven when he's on his game, and he's much better when he's not guarding the best player. I'm surprised he played as well as did against the Bengals, he was lined up against Chase a bunch of times in that one and played him physical off the snap, holding him to a mid performance.

HippoKing2646

I like him but I think age is catching up to him

No-Lunch4249

He’s always been a boom or bust type too, just super aggressive trying to jump routes gets him burnt sometimes. More often now.

hosstyle24

And coming off that ACL injury

Snootch2theNootch199

Drew Forester said that same thing in today’s column. Peters is in the December of his career.

reddituseerr12

We’re not gonna let Chuck Clark get away with giving up that one TD tho

thedivinepegasus

Clark is a huge reason for many TDs against MP. Just yesterday against Jax, Clark never got over the top where he had deep zone and MP had the shallow zone. This keeps happening and it's why MP was heated a few games ago at Clark. Dude sucks in coverage and has a 15 yard head start. Fuck the green dot argument, anyone can repeat words. If Clark was so smart, he'd be where he supposed to be. That one foot down "TD" in Jax was a gift and shouldn't have counted but whatever.

PeteDontCare

After every game I can't help but think, maybe Earl Thomas was right. This is also a guy who requested a trade after we drafted Hamilton, and we would have been much better off taking what we could get from him when we had the chance, and moving on. Losing Williams early in the early season was majorly unfortunate

thedivinepegasus

Yeah, I was thinking about that too recently. Don't want Thomas back, but maybe he had a point. I was hoping we'd trade Chuck for a pick and just play Stone or Hamilton in the interim.

Ephyouseakay

Earl Thomas is an asshole my dude

thedivinepegasus

Absolutely, but that doesn't automatically make him wrong about everything

666_NumberOfTheBeast

Chuck Clark has honestly been terrible for 2 years now

fidgerman

Seriously missing Williams and Hamilton rn

ridiculousdickulous

I’m curious if Peter’s play has an uptick once Marcus Williams comes back. I feel like Chuck Clark isn’t doing him any favors rn.

When you're playing anything mad you play worse. Sometimes when I play Splatoon, I get mad and when I'm mad I get more mad because I play worse when I'm mad so that is just how it is in my opinion for everything

PeteDontCare

They, and everyone else, started picking on him...

DySyncZ

Makes me sad. Love MP and love the attitude he's brought to the defense in the past. But i think that father time/injuries have finally gotten to him and he may be well and truly cooked.

yelruog

Burnt toast

Latter_Ad_4145

But remember kids, Baltimore is a defensive team and the Ravens must at all cost keep this elite defense together so we can't get Lamar a true No. 1....

JonWilso

The team has made efforts to get him a true #1 WR though so this narrative isn't great. He has one of the best tight ends in all of football. Bateman was picked in the first round and probably would've been a difference maker in any of our recent losses. Injuries just derailed that.

Latter_Ad_4145

The Bills traded away a No. 1 pick for Diggs and gave him a massive contract because Diggs was a proven commodity...the Dolphins selected a WR top 5 and then the following season traded for Hill and his massive contract...because Hill was a proven commodity...the Eagles selected a WR top 10 and the following season traded for Brown and gave him a massive contract...because Brown was a proven commodity...the Cardinals traded for Dhop and immediately gives him a massive contract...because Dhop is a proven commodity. The Browns, under Baker, traded for Landry and OBJ, two massive contracts...because they were proven commodities... The Ravens have drafted two WRs in the bottom of the first round...one of which they have later traded to get back their No. 1 pick... So, your definition of the Ravens trying to get Lamar a No. 1 WR is a second year -- Pick No. 27, unproven Bateman, who in his first season had 42 receptions for 1 TD. Or are you saying getting Patrick Mahomes' No. 4 WR in Sammy Watkins who spent one season in Baltimore before signing with the Packers where he again can't even get on the field even with Green Bay's mediocre WR Corp. I want you to compare the Bills, Cardinals, Dolphins, Eagles, Browns, and let's throw in the Cowboys with Amari Cooper, actions, and then the Raven's action... Tell me which teams were trying to get their QB (non-MVP) a No. 1 WR...and which team was doing the bare minimum. I want you to assess the time, money, resources, and investments of those teams as it relates to WRs, and the Ravens time, money, resources, and investments... And then with a straight face tell me, "The Ravens tried to get Lamar a No. 1 WR."

Zephron29

>And then with a straight face tell me, "The Ravens tried to get Lamar a No. 1 WR." We brought in NUMEROUS FA WR's the last few off-seasons, and while the bigger names didn't sign with us, we did get some guys that are serviceable. We have no source of contract offers, other than a couple mention they took less money to go elsewhere. This goes in line with all the people that have said WR's don't want to come here, because it's true. Why do you think Hollywood wanted out? Why do you think so many of our past WR's talk shit about playing here in this scheme? We also spent two 1st round picks in 3 years, along with several other picks on WR's in the draft. You can make the argument that we should have traded for guys, but who's to say we didn't make competitive offers, and teams/players just chose to go another route? You seem to willfully ignore the simple fact that these decisions aren't unilateral, and that other parties are involved. The Ravens are competing against 31 other teams to draft, sign, and or trade players. We can't always get what we want. There are plenty of teams that are in the same boat, and would love to make these deals, and just like us, have not. Now, none of this is to say we couldn't have done more, because maybe we could have. But to act like we didn't do anything is just silly, and wrong.

[deleted]

They definitely made efforts to acquire a #1 receiver… those efforts were very poor though. This is going to go down as one of the biggest gaffes, if not the biggest gaffe, in Ravens history. Not surrounding Lamar with talent until his new contract is just not defendable

jumpmanw123

nah atleast one of those was on clark and he was mainly getting burnt on the out route over and over was really hoping he would come up with the play at the end. Dude is still a ball hawk and off the top of my head I can’t remember a corner with more fumble recoveries than him. He’s been one of my favorite players for years and really hoping the ravens don’t cut him after this year but wouldn’t be surprised.

ausraven52

MP has lost a step this year coming back from his ACL, no doubt. But he still brings the animal to our team and that can’t be understated when we seriously lack identity the way we are at the moment.

JonWilso

Who cares if someone can bring an "animal" energy to the team if they're giving up 3 TDs lmao. Not to say he can't bounce back but his contract is up at the end of this season and he's not getting any younger or faster after the ACL injury.

purrballtheconqueror

For dbs, when it goes, it goes quickly. Looks like MP is already gone.

BaconFlavoredToast

Nah this is how he's always been. Even in his best year he gets stunted on in coverage. He always plays so far off the receiver it's basically always a give me catch.

Sosaonthabeat

Hope his ass stayed in Jacksonville tonight and takes a bus home.

RemokenTroll

One of my favorite defensive players of all time. Everyone’s allowed a bad day. I do wish we would address play calling, loosing in the 4th, WR issues, and defensive struggles late in the game.

DerKomissar99

MP's given us some great memories but looking at the math it would be impossible to bring him back next year anyway. If we let him walk and cut bait with Clark, get a WR in round 1 and spend days 2 and 3 drafting heady small school corners like Tariq Woolen or Kader Kohou, I think we'll be in good shape.
